When we think of a great road trip we think of good tunes, great company and delicious snacks.  Many of us will be going on road trips this Summer. So, let’s look at some healthier road trip snacks if you’re trying to achieve more balance over the festive period.

Savoury snacks (when you’re prepared)

Some of our favourite savoury snacks to prepare for your road trip (if organised!) are:

  • Veggie sticks and hummus or tsatsiki (or plain veggie sticks if no esky available)
  • Home-made veggie muffin or mini quiche
  • Nuts and seeds 
  • Vitaweets or corn thins with peanut butter (sandwich together and place in container)

Savoury snacks (packaged)

Our favourite healthier packaged savoury snacks are:

  • Roasted fava beans and chickpeas
  • Plain or lightly salted popcorn
  • Ready to go hummus with cracker packs
  • Cheese and cracker packs

Sweet snacks (when you’re prepared)

If you’re organised ahead of time, some delicious sweet snacks are:

  • Home-made bliss balls
  • Fresh fruit such as berries, grapes, apples and stone fruit
  • Healthier wholemeal fruit muffins such as banana or apple
  • Nut and muesli slice

Sweet snacks (packaged)

Some delicious, healthier sweet snacks you can grab to take with you are:

  • Nut/muesli bars such as Carman’s
  • Fods bars
  • Munch Me Bites
  • Chocolate covered chickpeas

Servo options

If you’re not prepared, remember there are plenty of healthier options available at most service stations (it doesn’t need to be pies and chips!).  Some of our favourite healthier servo snacks are:

  • Plain or lightly salted popcorn
  • Nut mixes 
  • Nut/muesli bars
  • Bliss balls such as bounce balls 
  • Munch Me Bites 
  • Fruit
