#1 Avocado toast
The humble avo on toast is a go-to café breakfast choice for many of us. To take your homemade version to the next level, it’s all about the presentation. The first step is to choose whether you want your avocado smashed or sliced. Then you can decide on your toppings. You could try adding some pomegranate and feta, or even a poached egg with a sprinkle of dukkha. Topping it with some chilli infused olive oil is another great way to add some flavour. You could try your café favourite or create your own. It’s the perfect way to get your creativity flowing.
#2 Breakfast bowls
Breakfast bowls are a favourite breakfast option which are easy to recreate at home. They are really versatile and can be made with the ingredients you have available in the fridge. To recreate a breakfast bowl at home, there are a few different components you will need. First, choose a protein source. This could be eggs (cooked your favourite way), some smoked salmon or even some chickpeas or falafels. Then choose your preferred carbs, such as quinoa, sweet potato or sourdough. Finally, you can pull together the veggies you have on-hand. This could be some sautéed or fresh baby spinach, roasted tomatoes or grilled mushrooms. There is no limit when it comes to your breakfast bowl. However, the final and most important step for a true café breakfast is the presentation. Try topping your breakfast bowl with some smashed avocado, sauerkraut or some roasted nuts for some extra crunch.
#3 Baked eggs
Another all-time favourite is the classic baked eggs. This is a simple dish that can be recreated by those of all skill levels. Simply mix together some tinned tomatoes with your favourite veg. This could include some mushrooms, capsicum and spinach. Then transfer your mix into an oven-safe dish and crack your eggs on top. The final step is to place it in the oven until your eggs are cooked to perfection. If you’re feeling a little fancy, try crumbling some goats cheese over the top. You could even add some pulled pork or cannellini beans into the tomato mix. Baked eggs are a classic dish with many different variations you can try at home. Serve with or without sourdough – the choice is all yours!
#4 Muesli with yoghurt
The classic yoghurt and muesli is a cafe breakfast favourite for many of us. To take your regular yoghurt and muesli to the café standard try topping it with some poached fruit. Not only does this taste delicious, but it also adds to the aesthetic of your meal. You can mix up the type of muesli you use each week. Plus, if you have some extra time on your hands, you could even try making your own. If you’re feeling a little fancy, try turning this into a breakfast parfait. All you need to do is alternate between layers of muesli, yoghurt and fruit in a glass or jar. Not only will this look amazing, but you’re also guaranteed all 3 components in every bite!
